Lauren: A sad-type Pokemon.
Imagine, for just a moment, that you work forty hours a week at some shitty job that barely pays you minimum wage. Your student debt is massive and your loan payments leave with hardly any paycheck to speak of. You live with your parents because you can’t afford a one bedroom apartment and anyone you would care to live with lives at least three hours away.
You’re imagining our respective lives.
Hi. I’m Melissa. I’m the one on the right. Stacia’s on the left with the glasses. The scenario I just walked you through is our real lives, everyday. It’s not too hard to imagine, though, is it? Maybe you know someone in this situation, or more likely maybe you are in this situation. In any case, I’m sure we can all agree that it really fucking sucks.
So what does one do when they want to escape the doldrums of post-graduate life? Sell everything they own and fly to Europe? Become a stripper and laugh all the way to the bank?
Or do they hit up strangers for money so they can visit their friend in New York?
(Spoiler alert: we’re the last one.)
That’s right. At the link above, you’ll find a website so cleverly designed and beautifully crafted, you’ll want to dump your entire life savings into the donation station. And should you feel so compelled, there is absolutely no one around to stop you! But today I only ask you to do one of two things.
Thing one: donate a dollar. Or whatever amount you wish. A dollar isn’t a lot, but every dollar gets us closer to New York.
Thing two: reblog this post. We totally get it if you can’t donate any money. Or if you just don’t want to. That’s fine. But the more exposure this gets, the more likely it is to be viewed by someone who can/will donate a dollar, and your reblog helped make that happen.
But wait! Why should I give you my money? I thought you might ask that. And honestly, I have no good answer. Because we asked nicely? Because our pathetic plea has pulled and plucked at your heartstrings just enough for you to hit that little yellow button and donate? Or maybe you just love that warm, glow-y feeling you get from helping those less fortunate than you. (And if you’re that person, GREAT. Do you have friends? Give them our link plzthx.) But if that isn’t enough…
We’re currently working on gifts for those who donate. We can’t give you a lot, but we can do small things. Perhaps commissioned artwork? The information will be posted on the website as soon as it is available in the Blog section.
